Help with eyeliner.

Question: If you put eyeliner on the top lid, should you also put liner on the lower lashline? Will it make the eyes look smaller if you do both?

There is no correct answer to this question, it really depends on the look you are going for. Whether you choose to line the top only or both the top and bottom of your eyes is purely a personal choice. The more area you cover with your eyeliner, the more dramatic the look. Try it both ways to determine how much eye makeup is right for you. As far as it making your eyes look smaller, most likely it won't. The only thing that really makes your eyes looks smaller is if you only line the waterline (which is the inner part of your lower and/or upper lid). We all remember doing that when we were teenagers, it was the only way we knew! If you are trying to create a smokey look, go ahead and use black or dark brown liner on your waterlines...it adds DRAMA!

Take a look at some of the images below, sit in front of your makeup mirror and try them all! It's only makeup...you can wash it off. It's not like a bad haircut that you have to live with for months!

EYELINER TIPS

1. Take your time!

2. Sharpen the pencil, and heat it up a bit by drawing on your hand. If it's liquid, make sure there are no clumps.

3. Rest your elbow on a hard surface, and then rest your wrist on your face (while you are holding the pencil/brush). This will reduce the problem of applying too much on your eye.

4. Apply the eyeliner. You can tilt your head back slightly and bring your eyes to a semi-open state. It allows you to see what you're doing. If you open your mouth slightly, it will relax your eye too!

5. If you want your lashes to look thicker, apply it on top lash line.

6. If you want to soften the eyeliner, blend it with a small detail brush. If you want to correct a mistake, use a Q-tip dipped in eye make up remover.

7. When it comes to the lower lid, trace the outside of your eye, and follow the shape of your eye. Go light, and repeat where you want it to be darker. The line should usually be slightly thicker at the outside, and thinner the closer you are to the nose.

Just work on it. Don't be discouraged. Like I said...If you hate it, wash it off and start over!
